Fourth Wing Book 4: Release Date Tracker and Everything Rebecca Yarros Has Confirmed

Let me save you the scroll…Fourth Wing book 4 still does not have a release date. No title either.

There is actual news, though. Rebecca Yarros confirmed in March 2026 that she is writing the fourth Empyrean book, the series is still planned for five books, and she has shared enough about book 4 that we are no longer working entirely from guess work.

We also have Threshing Day arriving September 29, 2026, which is an Empyrean book but very emphatically not book 4. Lordy, the confusion that one caused over the summer, let me tell you.

This is the page I would bookmark if you are waiting for the Onyx Storm sequel though. And when I have the news you will too.

The short version

  • Book 4 release date: not announced.
  • Book 4 title: not announced publicly.
  • Yarros is writing it: yes, confirmed March 19, 2026.
  • Realistic release window: 2027 is my estimate, not a publisher announcement.
  • Threshing Day: September 29, 2026; thirteen Empyrean stories; not book 4.
  • Peculiar Stars: November 17, 2026; a standalone contemporary romance.
  • Series length: five books planned, making book 4 the penultimate volume.
  • POV count: four narrators, according to Yarros.
  • Death warning: Yarros has said someone readers love will not survive 🙁

Is there a Fourth Wing book 4 release date?

No. As of August 2026 there is no official release date for Fourth Wing book 4 and no public title.

The fake certainty usually comes from two places. Ahem. 1. Retailers create placeholder listings so a future book has somewhere to exist in their systems. 2. Then aggregator sites repeat those dates until a guess becomes a lie.

I try not to do that on this site, but you know how it goes.

What has Rebecca Yarros actually confirmed about book 4?

She is drafting it, in machiavellian ways…follow her on Insta for the drama. Yarros posted in March 2026 with a whiteboard, a ‘#4’, and set off a tailspin all over the world for Xaden lovers everywhere. She basically said, her contemporary novel had gone to her editor, and she was back in Empyrean.

She has also said book 4 uses four point-of-view characters and warned that someone readers love does not make it out, boo. But, if the story needs more eyes, then there is probably a split story structure going on, that will need to weave together. My guess? Xaden’s side, vs. Vi’s. And what happens to one will be balanced with the other. So keep your eyes peeled as you read.

A title reportedly exists, but it has not been revealed yet unfortunately. Until it is on an official post or publisher page, I am leaving the blank space blank and will report back.

Want the conspiracy theories?

Listen, I love a good conspiracy as much as the next person, that’s why I’ve written a slew of guides on what the community (and a little of me) think might be happening next in the series. Check out Fourth Wing Book 4 | Everything We Know and Everything We Dread, The Wildest Empyrean Theories, and Onyx Storm Theories That Might Actually Be True.

Threshing Day is not book 4

For months the companion release sat on retailer sites with ‘Untitled Empyrean’. People still preordered it as book 4, or what we hoped might be something to do with book 4.

Threshing Day releases September 29, 2026 and collects thirteen stories about Empyrean characters and the dragons who chose them. Xaden and Sgaeyl are confirmed. The deluxe first edition includes sixteen full-colour illustrations by Joe Requeza and is limited to the US and Canada while supplies last.

Structurally, this is Empyrean 3.5…backstory, bonding, lore, emotional damage. And if you ask me, will be a must read if you want to figure out what comes next before books release.

It does not pick up the Onyx Storm cliffhanger, and Yarros has said it does not delay book 4 for those wondering.

Why four narrators matters more than you think

Fourth Wing began tightly with Violet. The series has widened since but only a smidge, and now book 4 apparently needs four narrators. That tells me the story is likely splitting geographically, politically, or both for us to need such a wide breadth.

The specific names most often circulated when people discuss this are Violet, Xaden, Dain, and Ridoc, but I would keep a little asterisk beside that list, because it may have more to do with location than what fans want to see.

I also wonder if there will be a villain POV. Like something from The Naturals, where we see snippets of a villains POV to help build us up to the final book. As we’re hitting the end (there are 5 total) things are about to get really dark and I wouldn’t be surprised if there are some really tragic scenes because of it and lots of teasing.

If Dain does end up narrating, that is the choice to watch. Giving a divisive character interiority this late in a series is not neutral. Once a reader is inside someone’s motives rather than judging them from across the room, sympathy changes a bit. So people might like him more. But I have a feeling that won’t be the character chosen, unless he is given a redemption arc from Xaden.

Why 2027 is the realistic release window

Fourth Wing arrived in May 2023, Iron Flame six months later, and Onyx Storm in January 2025. That first turnaround trained everyone to expect a quick clipped pace. So this gap as been pretty big.

Now Yarros has Threshing Day on September 29, 2026 and Peculiar Stars on November 17, 2026. Both require their own production and publicity, which means touring and time. She only confirmed active book 4 drafting in March. A giant fantasy release with global coordination, editing, printing, retailer editions, sprayed edges, and approximately nine billion preorder variants does not teleport from draft to shelf. How they’re even managing writing to be completed in less than a year, I have no idea! Brilliant minds at play for sure. It’s not coming out before 2027, there’s no way. Too many things to do.

What to read while you wait

Nothing else is Fourth Wing but there are quite a few books out there that are just as fun. Where this leaves us

Book 4 is being written. Four POVs are planned. Somebody we love is apparently in danger. There is still no release date.

My money is on 2027, but my calendar stays blank until Yarros or Entangled puts ink on it. I have learned things.

Frequently asked questions

When is Fourth Wing book 4 coming out?

There is no official release date yet. A 2027 release is a reasonable estimate based on the current schedule, but it has not been announced by Rebecca Yarros or Entangled.

Is Threshing Day Fourth Wing book 4?

No. Threshing Day is an Empyrean companion collection releasing September 29, 2026. It is catalogued between the mainline books and does not continue the Onyx Storm cliffhanger.

Is Rebecca Yarros writing Empyrean book 4?

Yes. Yarros confirmed in March 2026 that she had returned to the Empyrean world and was working on book 4.

Five mainline books are planned. Book 4 is therefore the penultimate volume, followed by the series finale.

Does Fourth Wing book 4 have a title?

A title may already exist internally, but no official title has been publicly announced. Treat circulating titles as speculation until Yarros or Entangled confirms one.
